Celebrity Perp Haircut - Rev Phil

TRIAL SET OVER UNTIL MAY

TRIAL SET OVER UNTIL MAY
PORTLAND, OR - Reverend Phil gets a haircut in advance of his trial (next Wednesday). (Trial has been set over until May.)

He's facing 2 1/2 years for various misdemeanor charges. Reverend Phil alleges and eyewitnesses will testify that an apparently drunken driver stuck him with her vehicle during the 2006 World Naked Bike Ride in Portland, Oregon. She then had her boyfriend, an off duty police officer, attack him.

This will be the fourth attempt at a jury trial. Stay tuned to CrankMyChain! Cycle TV as we follow the proceedings.

Who Wants to Visit a Sprawl Guru Tonight?

PORTLAND, OR-
RECAP:I had an facinating time at the executive club meeting tonight. I rode out with Reverend Phil and met up with fellow cyclist, Toby. We shot some video, saw Mr. Cox's slide show presentation (we may digest that later). For now let's just say he made some points that are worth looking into. We also had some interesting and sometimes lively converstaion with the executive club folks.

ORIGINAL POST
Anyone wish to accompany me to the lion's den tonight (see below)? I'll probably ride out along the I-205 path or I could meet folks a Lloyd center for a max ride.

Shoot me an email or call me if you wanna come along.

From Portland Tribune Story by Jim Redden.

...the Executive Club, a social organization founded by conservative tax-limitation advocate Don McIntire, is bringing a nationally known [public transit and urban planning] skeptic to town.

Wendell Cox will speak to the group at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Shilo Inn Suites Hotel, 11707 N.E. Airport Way. It is free and open to the public, although there is a charge for those who order dinner.

Cox is the principal of Wendell Cox Consultancy, an international public policy firm based in St. Louis and the editor of three Web sites, Demographia, The Public Purpose and Rental Car Tours, which urges travelers to rent cars and avoid traditional tourist tours.

He also serves as a senior fellow at the Heartland Institute, a Chicago-based think tank that describes itself as a free-market advocate.

“Planning is a religion in Portland. Metro sends missionaries around the world spreading the message, which is false,” Cox told the Portland Tribune.

Cox grew up in Hillsboro before moving to Los Angeles, where he originally championed light rail as a member of the Los Angeles County Transportation Commission. Cox said he changed his mind after realizing that light rail in Portland and other cities does not carry enough people to make a difference.

Reverend Phil Trial Postponed Again

Update and NBR RerunMBW Training in the Snow

Phil and Carl Train for MiniBike Winter '07. Thank you Shawn for the pic

Portland, Ore. - If you have been following the Reverend Phil naked bike ride trial here here is the latest.

Snowy conditions prevented new jurors from being called to Multnomah County Circuit Court today. Reverend Phil and his attorney, Stu Sugarman, still had to appear today. On Feburary 9th they will ask for a new court date. They will request March date, which works well for their various witnesses.

Here is a video from warmer, happier times at last years World Naked Bike Ride.

Naked Justice for Reverend Phil?

PORTLAND, Ore.- I invited Reverend Phil down to the CrankMyChain Garage for a chat about his exciting hump-day ahead. First, FreeGeek a non-profit organization he is closely involved with is getting a Mayor’s award Wednesday.

Unfortunately, he won’t attend as he is being defended in a criminal trial stemming from an incident during the Naked Bike Ride last June. He is facing 2 and 1/2 years in jail if convicted Wednesday.

Please send letters to the Judge Albrecht and attend the trial to lend support to our bicycle evangelist Reverend Phil. It will start Wednesday Morning at the Multnomah County Courthouse (1021 SW 4th Ave.), room #406. There is a emancipation party after the trial at Roturre 3rd SE Pine. Live Music will include Matt+Kim, The Pharmacy, Show Me the Pink, and Here Comes a Big Black Cloud.

Bikes, Dancing, Mud, and Drums

PORTLAND, Ore. – When I started doing this bike vlog this summer I was afraid I’d run out of things to cover during the rainy season. Well, I was wrong. This weekend the Sprockettes hosted several bike events starting with a Dance Party Friday night that had bike dance teams (The Sprockettes, The B:C:Clettes, The Brakes) and live music including one of my favorite groups, Show Me the Pink. I missed Saturday’s events because I was working in Miz Kitty’s Parlour. But Reverend Phil has some videotapes from Saturday's events.

Sunday the USGP of Cyclocross came through town with some of the top riders in the world. The Last Regiment of Syncopated Drummers, rowdy fans, and hottubbers greeted them. Later that night the Cross Crusade held their awards party which was also very entertaining and included the LRS Drummers, along with fire dancers from Atyerre Vision, and acrobats from the A-Wol Dance Collective.

I took me a day just to recover from this rainy weekend version of Burning Man done Pacific Northwest style. “Don’t tell me this town ain’t got no heart. You just got to poke around.”

This is a quick montage some of the weekends bike events. I plan on doing more with the USGP race footage and the Sprocettes weekend separately.

Portland Police and Zoobombers - Rock Rebel Roll

Zoobomb is a weekly bike event in Portland. Zoobombers take the light rail to the Washington Park Zoo and "bomb" down through the Arlington Heights neighborhood on various types of bicycles - especially mini-bikes. Zoobombers also take on the daring descent of Hwy 26 (a freeway section where bicycles are allowed). After a bomber wiped-out on Hwy 26, aka Hellway, Portland Police felt the need to check up on these bicycling insurgents and here is some of the video they captured set to the Rebel's Original "Rock Rebel Rock".
