Cross Crusade Videos - The 2006 Collection

I have put all the CrankMyChain XC'06 videos in one place for easy reverence. River City Bicycle's CrossCrusade is the worlds largest Cylocross series and quite a specticle. The events and music videos are posted below in reverse order of production.
I've got to a lot to learn about shooting, editing, and scoring but I feel that I really grew as I shot these videos this season. More importantly I had a blast. Cyclocross rocks and it's a sport just built for the Pacific Nortwest.

Thanks go to River City Bicycles for sponsoring the video coverage.

If you like these videos, I can tell you they're easily 10 times better on DVD. Soon
I will make them avail on web in Hi Def, as well. Enjoy all the races and support CrankMyChain! Cycle TV by purchasing the video here.

Images from Krugers Crossing

SAUVIE ISLAND, Ore.- Not much racing on this video just a few shots that caught my eye from Kruger's Farm cyclocross race. I spent most of my time enjoying the crisp fall day with my son and watching him in the kiddy cross race. After a foot of rainfall the month before I had to get out and enjoy a day like this.

The dry weather was not enough to clear the slog, though. Many of the racers spent a lot of time on foot becuase the mud was so thik and sticky it would clog their tires and derailleurs. In the corn maze I came across one of the riders running the course with a toddler bike. Rumor had it that she even bombed down one of the pavement hills. Perhaps her next stop that evening was zoo bomb.

A Halloween Dream of Cyclocross

YAMHILL, Ore. - This is the Redux of the first video I did of 2006 CycloCross Crusade Race #4 at the Flying M. There were so many fun images to work with I wanted to circle back around and add my song Halloween Dream to the new version.

Kiddy Cross

What happens when Cyclocross racers have children? They teach them to love racing bicycles in the mud. Wait a second… you don’t have to teach a kid to like that!

Bikes, Dancing, Mud, and Drums

PORTLAND, Ore. – When I started doing this bike vlog this summer I was afraid I’d run out of things to cover during the rainy season. Well, I was wrong. This weekend the Sprockettes hosted several bike events starting with a Dance Party Friday night that had bike dance teams (The Sprockettes, The B:C:Clettes, The Brakes) and live music including one of my favorite groups, Show Me the Pink. I missed Saturday’s events because I was working in Miz Kitty’s Parlour. But Reverend Phil has some videotapes from Saturday's events.

Sunday the USGP of Cyclocross came through town with some of the top riders in the world. The Last Regiment of Syncopated Drummers, rowdy fans, and hottubbers greeted them. Later that night the Cross Crusade held their awards party which was also very entertaining and included the LRS Drummers, along with fire dancers from Atyerre Vision, and acrobats from the A-Wol Dance Collective.

I took me a day just to recover from this rainy weekend version of Burning Man done Pacific Northwest style. “Don’t tell me this town ain’t got no heart. You just got to poke around.”

This is a quick montage some of the weekends bike events. I plan on doing more with the USGP race footage and the Sprocettes weekend separately.

Pure Sweet Hell "Cyclocross Film" (Three Minute Trailer)

PURE SWEET HELL tells the story of cyclocross, a sport that has emerged as bike racing's punk rock cousin. Told from an insider's perspective, the filmmakers traveled to 'cross competitions throughout North America, dug up vintage photos and film footage, and followed 'cross luminaries Justin Robinson, Gina Hall, Barry Wicks and Rick Hunter. Shot entirely on Super 8 and supported by experimental rock music, PURE SWEET HELL surfaces both the strong community behind the solitary sport and the grace that arises amidst all of its grit.

More information about the film can be found at www.cyclocrossfilm.com . Purchasing info is available on the website.
